Deadwood: the long-awaited movie to film next year

Cancelled in 2006 without closure, and when grown up TV shows fell foul to small ratings and escalating budgets, Deadwood has been the subject of a movie revival for years.

Though TVLine claims to have their sources, they admit that a representative from HBO declined to comment about the project, which hasn't actually gotten the green light, yet. There has been talk of a potential movie for many years, and it now looks like it is happening, with new reports that production could start in 2018.

HBO's top programming exec Casey Bloys confirmed with TV Line that the film continuation is now aiming to start filming in fall 2018. Speaking at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Bloys said: "The one thing that I was concerned about was I wanted a script that would stand on its own [for Deadwood fans and non-fans]", he said. The show ran three seasons, starting in 2004, before ending in 2006. Deadwood attracts people looking to get rich after a huge gold strike, as well as those looking to capitalize on the lack of organized law in the town, built on land stolen from the Sioux.

Ian McShane headed up the cast of the series as Al Swearengen.
