Sporting KC's reserve side Swope Park Rangers lose USL Cup vs. Louisville

Louisville City FC shined on soccer's biggest stage to capture the 2017 United Soccer League Cup.

Cameron Lancaster's header in the 88th minute allowed FC to nip Swope Park, 1-0, in front of a sellout crowd of more than 14,000 Monday night at Slugger Field.

Lancaster, a second-half substitute, headed home a long ball forward from Speedy Williams at the near post, securing the title for Louisville in its third year of existence.

In a game of few chances, Moloto was handed a starting berth - his 29th of the season - upfront, and thought he had netted the opener 36 minutes in, letting fly from outside the box as Louisville keeper Gregory Ranjitsingh produced a diving save to his right to deny the South African.

Louisville forward Luke Spencer was within inches of the goal line at the hour mark when he almost connected on a cross by former Houston Dynamo draft pick Brian Ownby.

The team and officials are expected to speak at a press conference Tuesday.
