La Journée Mondiale du Diabète est célébrée chaque année le 14 Novembre.

La Journée mondiale du diabète est organisée depuis 1991 par la Fédération internationale du diabète et soutenue par l'Organisation mondiale de la santé.

Le diabète est une maladie chronique qui se caractérise par un excès de sucre et donc, un taux de glucose élevé dans le sang. C'est une maladie auto-immune touchant généralement les sujets jeunes (enfants, adolescents, jeunes adultes, etc.). Le diabète, surtout de type 2, est en effet asymptomatique et ne provoque pas de douleur. Il résulte d'une anomalie (soit le pancréas fabrique toujours de l'insuline mais pas assez, par rapport à la glycémie, soit cette insuline agit mal).

Le diabète, un trouble d'assimilation des sucres par l'organisme, existe sous deux formes.

Les femmes souffrant du diabète de type 1 qui désirent avoir un bébé doivent également "programmer leur grossesse pour avoir un équilibre (de leur maladie, NDLR) complet lors de la conception et durant toute la grossesse", ajoute-t-elle. Dans les pays voisins, environ 1,65 million de personnes sont atteintes de diabète au Maroc contre 762.000 personnes en Tunisie. De nombreuses personnes ne seraient donc tout simplement pas diagnostiquées; ce qui fausse les chiffres. 327 millions de diabétiques ont entre 20 et 64 ans, tandis que 123 millions ont plus de 65 ans. Le vieillissement de la population, un meilleur dépistage mais aussi l'augmentation du surpoids et de l'obésité seraient responsable de cette amplification du nombre de diabétiques. Objectif, faire évoluer durablement la prise en charge du diabète et la vie quotidienne des patients.

Le diabète représente un véritable problème de santé publique, qui constitue un coût non négligeable pour les États.
