A NY woman was accused Monday of intentionally drowning her infant son in a bathtub in her Rochester apartment.

The mother of the child, Markiya Mitchell, was taken from the scene and, upon being interviewed by investigators from the Rochester Police Department's Special Victim Investigations, she admitted to intentionally drowning the baby in the bathtub with the objective of ending his life.

Police say they found her 10 month old son Jeremiah, unresponsive in a bathtub Monday afternoon.

"The defendant by these actions intentionally caused the death of her infant son", the complaint read. The 10-day-old remained unresponsive upon arrival of police, and officers were told the infant was discovered that way.

The baby was taken to Rochester General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Markiya Mitchell, 25, admitted to investigators that she intentionally drowned her son in the bathtub with the goal of ending his life.

Police have charged 25 year old Markiya Mitchell with second degree murder.

Mitchell appeared in a court hearing Tuesday morning and pleaded not guilty.
