Man shot while trying to enter Hindon IAF base

Ghaziabad: A man was shot at and injured, while attempting to scale the wall of high-security Hindon airbase on the outskirts of the national capital close to midnight today, police said. Police said Sujeet Kumar was shot in his legs when he tried to scale the perimeter wall of the air base despite several warnings.

He was later admitted to hospital.

The Indian Air Force intelligence wing and the Ghaziabad Police are interrogating the man to ascertain whether he has any terror links.Anoop Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Police, as reported by TOI, said, "His mobile phone is being screened".

The man, identified as Sujeet Kumar from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, said he did not have anything to eat and wanted to sit on the wall.

He has been staying in the Anand Vihar locality for past three years.

Officials said he was seen lurking around the air base at around 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

First, he tried to enter the airbase area through one of the gates, but after being warned by the guards, he resorted to scaling the fence.

The base houses the C-130J and C-17 squadrons, the two latest transport aircraft of the IAF.

After this incident, the security around the airbase has been beefed up. Call details are being fetched.
