Boots has said it will slash the price of a controversial £50 advent calendar after it received a barrage of criticism online.

Well, there's seven stickers, a ceramic bauble, a purse, a candle, a candle holder (called a votive, apparently), room spray, a teeny jotter pad, two cookie cutters, a pen, a key ring and, perhaps the most stinging, a bag of confetti.

Since facing a huge backlash, Boots has slashed the price of the calendar in half.

Zoella - who is dating co-blogger Alfie Deyes - has a huge social media following with 11.2 million fans on Instagram and 11.7 million on Twitter, and many are teenagers and young girls.

The lifestyle themed advent calendar features 12 windows filled with exclusive treats, including scented candles, accessories, stationery and baking tools.

However, some came to the YouTuber's defence over the price of her 12-item calendar, saying consumers were free not to buy it.

Parents slammed the beauty vlogger's calendar as "tat" and "massively overpriced", leading to Boots heavily reducing the price down to half price at £25.

'The Zoella lifestyle advent calendar is full of 12 exclusive treats which are all clearly listed on boots.com and can not be purchased separately'.

Zoella - real name Zoe Sugg - has angered fans after charging £50 for her new project.

A fourth offensive tweet refers to an unknown woman and says: '@camieee haha, it's like everyone feels sorry for her.

Another said: "Don't get me wrong, I love Zoella but you can't deny how absolutely ridiculous that advent calendar is".

"Once that product is done and I am happy with it, the retailer can decide how much they sell that for, that's completely outside of my decision making". I don't have the right to make those decisions.

"There's a lot of people who think I chose that price, and that I don't care, and that I'm doing it for the money and that makes me so sad because that's not who I am".
