Carl Frampton has a point to prove

In a fight between two South African boxers, Zolani Tete set a new record for the fastest KO in a world title fight as he knocked Siboniso Gonya out cold with his very first punch just six seconds after the bell.

Carl Frampton overcame Horacio Garcia via a unanimous decision as Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez watched ringside in Belfast. The judges scores were 98-93, 97-93, 96-93.

It was the first time Frampton was fighting since splitting with trainer Shane McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions.

He eventually secured a unanimous points win and immediately targeted a big fight in 2018, with the likes of Lee Selby, Santa Cruz, Scott Quigg and Josh Warrington all potential candidates.

"We don't want Carl to not fight for 10 months so he will fight again and then we will be in Windsor Park for a big fight in the summer".

And Warren admits his fighter is unlikely to take to the ring again before then.

Frampton lost the WBA title in his last fight, a hard loss against Leo Santa Cruz.

"That is what we promised and that is what we will do".

Frampton said: "It was a good fight for the fans".

Frampton added: "I want to make the most of every fight now".

"It was a great fight and it will do him no harm as he has got some tough rounds in and he will need that against someone like Santa Cruz or Mares".
