New Orleans holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Carolina for now, but it must double down this week with the Panthers coming into the Superdome on Sunday.

Rookie receiver Josh Reynolds caught his first touchdown pass and finished with four catches for 37 yards.

The Saints offense was inefficient, the defense gave up too many big plays, and in a matchup against the NFC West-leading Rams (8-3), New Orleans (8-3) made too many mistakes to overcome.

Rookie running back Alvin Kamara took a handoff, burst off right tackle and dashed down the sideline in front of the Rams' bench for a 74-yard touchdown.

But Brees connected with Kamara for a 15-yard touchdown with 1:45 left. It is worth noting, however, that Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan still managed a monster game with two sacks, two batted passes and a disrupted run as the Saints tried to play bend-but-don't-break for much of the day.

But, those two star players weren't enough to carry the Saints to another win against another of the NFL's top teams.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff played well, going 28 of 43 for 354 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Goff completed a 24-yard pass to Sammy Watkins on the game's first play, which led to a quick 7-0 lead, and he never really slowed down from there.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Kamara is now the first player in the National Football League since Herschel Walker in 1986 with more than 500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in his first 11 career games.

Still, the Saints trailed just 17-10 at halftime as Kamara's long touchdown run was something of an equalizer despite the other offensive struggles. Keep it here for live news updates, analysis and stats before, during and after the game.

That's when the Saints' offense woke up.

The Saints didn't help themselves either, racking up seven penalties for 112 yards.

Los Angeles turned in a gritty defensive effort against the high-scoring Saints (8-3), holding Drew Brees to 246 yards passing - just 96 in the first three quarters - and sacking him three times.

In case you missed it: With Lattimore (ankle) and Crawley (abdominal) ruled out Friday, the Saints had to start Williams and Harris.

Saints left tackle Terron Armstead had to leave the game with a hamstring injury. Tight end Coby Fleener was ruled out after undergoing concussion protocol in the second half. CBS announced that he had a hamstring injury. Saints safety Marcus Williams also went to the locker room in the fourth quarter.
