Speight made the announcement on his Twitter and Instagram pages, writing "Thank you, Michigan".

Brandon Peters and Christian McCaffrey are expected to battle for the starting quarterback job next season. He thanked Harbaugh for making him a better quarterback - "and always having my back no matter what".

Speight said he does not know where he will transfer. This season, his senior year, he played just four games after being voted All-Big Ten third team as a junior in 2016 and was a Davey O'Brien Quarterback award semifinalist throwing for 2,538 yards and 18 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

"I don't know where next will be, and I'll use these next four weeks to figure that out".

Speight says he's leaving "a Michigan Man", and is "excited to pursue my dreams in a new jersey". The Wolverines lost most of their offensive production from 2016 and Speight struggled in the early going.

Speight, the Wolverines' starter last season and the first four games this season before suffering three fractured vertebrae that prevented him from playing the rest of the year, revealed via social media on Sunday that he is moving on.

O'Korn, Speight's maligned primary backup, is out of eligibility.

In three seasons, and 23 games, Speight threw for 3,192 yards and 10 touchdowns. From there, Peters became the starter until he suffered a concussion at Wisconsin on November 18. They finished the regular season 8-4, concluding with a 31-20 loss to rival Ohio State on Saturday.

The Wolverines' QB situation for 2018 wasn't all that clear even with Speight onboard, though he might've started again in the event he stayed healthy.

MI also has Dylan McCaffrey, a four-star recruit in the 2017 class, on the roster. Additionally, the Wolverines have a verbal commitment from Joe Milton, a four-star quarterback in the 2018 class.
