Ed Sheeran picks up MBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace

The Shape of You singer, 26, was given the ultimate honour by Prince Charles, and was seen posing with the pretigious award outside the palace on Thursday.

Sheeran's career took off after the release of his debut CD in 2011 and since that time the 26-year-old has notched up three number one singles, along with three chart-topping albums.

The pop star, who released his debut album in 2011, revealed that he would love to flawless at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding reception while chatting to PA following the ceremony. Two honours in one day? He explained: "Do you know what I love, my grandfather was a massive royalist, he had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it's actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he'd be pretty proud".

ED Sheeran was awarded an MBE at Buckingham Palace today for his services to music and charity. But asked afterwards by reporters whether he would do so if invited, he replied with a grin: "Yeah, why not".

Ed has performed with the likes of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Eminem, Elton John, Rudimental, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Beyonce, Gary Clarke and Example.

Joking about his meeting with Charles, the musician said the Prince was impressed by his globe-trotting activities as he was due to fly to NY later for a gig.

Recently, it was announced that Ed had topped two of YouTube's trending lists for the United Kingdom in 2017 and "Shape of You" came number 2 on the list of most-watched YouTube music videos, coming second to "Despacito".

Asked what he and Princes Charles chatted about, Sheeran told the BBC: "He was asking me if I was still selling lots of records and I told him I've got a concert in NY tomorrow, and he was quite surprised I was flying after this".
