Dexter Fletcher Hired to Direct Queen Movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” — Again

With Bryan Singer out, 20th Century Fox has tapped filmmaker Dexter Fletcher to direct "Bohemian Rhapsody", a biopic about Queen out December 25 next year.

Fletcher, who has directed films such as "Eddie the Eagle" and "Wild Bill" will resume production next week, reported Variety.

But Singer, whose credits include the X-Men movies, has denied he was sacked for acting unprofessionally, saying that he was denied time off by 20th Century Fox for a health matter involving his parents.

Dexter Fletcher will take over directing duties on Bohemian Rhapsody, the much-anticipated Queen biopic previously helmed by X-Men and The Usual Suspects director Bryan Singer.

The studio statement on Fletcher's hiring doesn't indicate whether or not there'll be reshoots or if he'll be drastically changing the make-up of Singer's film, but it's likely that there'll be a number of scenes reshot as Fox claims that Singer was regularly absent from the set.

The film has gone through a lot of snags throughout its years-long development, and for several months between 2013 and 2014, Fletcher was one of the rumored directors attached.

Bohemian Rhapsody has been filming in London with Emmy-winning Mr. Robot star Rami Malek in the lead as Mercury, the band's frontman who needs no introduction.

After his firing, Singer said he was let go after the studio declined to give him time off to deal with an ailing parent.

He added: 'Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving'. The band are, from left to right; Brian May, John Deacon (standing), Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury (Frederick Bulsara, 1946 - 1991).

Nevertheless, his swift replacement could help the film remain on track for a Christmas 2018 release date. Lucy Boynton also stars as Mary Austin, Mercury's muse and lover.
