Facebook best place to work in US, Apple ranks 84th: Glassdoor

Apple Plummets From 36 to 84 on Glassdoor's 'Best Places to Work' List

Apple Plummets From 36 to 84 on Glassdoor's 'Best Places to Work' List

To find the winners of its Employees' Choice Awards, including the best places to work, Glassdoor scans its database of company reviews and ratings from current and former employees.

According to Glassdoor, the ranking system is based on "a proprietary awards algorithm", which is created to calculate the "quantity, quality, and consistency of company reviews submitted by employees between November 1, 2016, and October 22, 2017". The Cupertino, California, tech giant saw its rank tumble 48 spots from No. 36 to No. 84 on the same list.

In-N-Out Burger ranked No. 4 on Glassdoor's list of the best places to work in 2018.

There's one fast-food chain that rises above nearly every other company in the U.S. when it comes to how much employees love their jobs. "What we really see them appreciate most is the company's mission-driven culture, transparent leadership and the fact that their work literally impacts the lives of billions of people worldwide", Glassdoor CEO Robert Hohman said in a statement. However, the so-called "cons" for working at Apple stated at a company that is "strapped for resources", offers a meager work-life balance for a fraction, internal politics that make it hard for some employees to move up the ladder, and high pressure to "deliver at a high standard with quick turnaround."Some of the other mentioned reasons were- lack of free lunch for corporate employees - a commonplace Silicon Valley perk offered by companies like Facebook and Google - and Apple's widely known "culture of secrecy".

"Office space is very sparse, bring your own tea and snacks kind of a deal". A lack of free lunch for employees is also a typical gripe.

SAP is at 11th spot, Salesforce at 15th, LinkedIn at 21th, Adobe at 31th, Microsoft at 39th and SpaceX is at 50th place in Glassdoor's listing.
