Jaguar i-PACE Geneva 2018 Debut

The eye-catching crossover is the carmaker's first all-electric vehicle and will directly rival the Tesla Model X. Unlike the Tesla, however, the I-Pace won't look like a bloated¬ sedan and instead more closely resemble a sporty luxury auto fitting of the Jaguar badge.

Yesterday we reported on the final testing of the new Jaguar i-Pace as Jaguar work to sign-off their first electric vehicle for production by running production prototypes for 1.5 million miles. During the test run, engineers managed to cover 200 miles from Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles to Morro Bay in San Luis Obsipo.

Customers can register their interest for the I-Pace now, with the reveal of the model likely to be in January 2018.

It is projected that the North American market will account for around 50 per cent of the I-Pace's sales when it enters production, with China and Europe each accounting for 25 per cent. In concept form, the vehicle uses electric motors at both the front and rear axles, producing a combined 400 hp and 700 Nm of torque with permanent all-wheel drive.

At the unveiling of the I-Pace Concept a year ago, Ian Callum, Jaguar's director of design, said: "The I-Pace Concept is a radical departure for electric vehicles".

According to Jaguar, this allows the electric concept to accelerate from 0-60mph in around four seconds.

"This isn't just a concept. This will be Jaguar's first-ever battery-powered electric vehicle and opens a new chapter in the history of our legendary brand".
