A Comissão Europeia esclareceu hoje que prossegue a primeira fase as negociações sobre o 'Brexit' com Londres, reiterando não haver ainda "fumo branco" para passar à segunda fase.

A Comissão Europeia recomendou nesta sexta-feira o avanço à segunda fase de negociações do Brexit, que poderia incluir um acordo de livre comércio, ao considerar que foram alcançados "progressos suficientes" nas prioridades das discussões de divórcio, incluindo o futuro da fronteira na Irlanda. "Eu acho que vamos trabalhar nas próximas duas horas com o governo do Reino Unido para fechar isso". Na prática, tratava-se de um estatuto de excepção que permitiria à região manter-se de alguma forma ligada ao mercado único europeu e à união aduaneira, ao contrário do que Londres assegurava que aconteceria com o resto do país. A recomendação de Bruxelas para que se iniciem os trabalhos em torno da segunda fase das negociações baseia-se no relatório conjunto acordado pelos negociadores da Comissão e do Governo do Reino Unido, que foi hoje subscrito pela primeira-ministra britânica durante uma reunião, em Bruxelas, com o presidente do executivo comunitário, Jean-Claude Juncker.

A primeira-ministra britânica, Theresa May, está a caminho de Bruxelas, onde vai reunir-se esta manhã com o presidente da Comissão Europeia, Jean-Claude Juncker, confirmou Downing Street, após a UE ter anunciado um provável encontro. O negociador-chefe da UE, Michel Barnier, considera que "serão protegidas as opções de vida dos cidadãos da UE que vivem no Reino Unido".

"Estes cidadãos, assim como os cidadãos britânicos que vivem na UE, conservarão os seus direitos após a saída do Reino Unido do bloco".

"Na Irlanda do Norte, garantiremos que não exista uma fronteira dura", disse May. "A Comissão garantiu igualmente que todos os procedimentos administrativos para os cidadãos da UE que vivem no Reino Unido serão simples e pouco dispendiosos", indica um comunicado da Comissão Europeia.

Os europeus queriam avanços suficientes nos três pontos antes de domingo para que os líderes dos 27 Estados que continuarão na UE tenham tempo de examinar o acordo e possam aprová-lo na reunião de cúpula de 14 e 15 de dezembro, o que marcaria o início da segunda fase, como deseja Londres.
