Tom Brady apologizes for berating Patriots coach ‘He knows how much I love him

Before Tom Brady took questions at his weekly press conference Saturday at Gillette Stadium, the quarterback wanted to get something off his chest. "I just want to get that off my chest". I know our coaches work really hard and they are responsible for putting us in a great position to succeed.

"A lot of people see it and they think the nature of our relationship would be something like that, but it's really the exact opposite", Brady said Saturday. I've been feeling bad all week and haven't had a chance to say it. As Brady was walking past McDaniels, McDaniels appeared to say something to the signal-caller, who responded by screaming at McDaniels and ripping off his helmet as he lit into the coach for several seconds.

The Patriots first drive of the game ended after Brady threw an incomplete pass on 3rd-and-11.

Whatever McDaniels said to Brady obviously ticked him off. I love Tom and all those things he stands for and all the things he does for our team.

After the game Brady called it "just football" and McDaniels downplayed the exchange later in the week. "Things like that can happen", McDaniels said Tuesday.

The sudden overflow of emotion was chalked up by some as part of the game. "That's a situation where you understand it and move on quickly from it, and you focus on your job".

The Patriots-Dolphins game is on Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
