Mark Hamill Wishes Disney Gave George Lucas' Star Wars Advice More Weight

Lucas received a creative consultant title for the new Star Wars films in 2013, but Disney reportedly scrapped his ideas for a new trilogy in favor of what eventually would become the story of The Force Awakens.

LOS ANGELES, CA - DECEMBER 03: (L-R) Actors Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac attend the press conference for the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

As you'll no doubt remember, Kathleen Kennedy took over control of Lucasfilm (with Lucas' blessing) soon after the merger with Disney, and though it took some time for George Lucas to acclimate to the altered landscape, the current boss recently told EW that the director/writer now considers himself more of a fan than anything else - just like you or me.

Nearly two years after the release of the seventh episode in the Skywalker saga, The Last Jedi will finally debut for audiences across the globe Thursday night, and signals the return of Hamill to a full-fledged role as Luke Skywalker following his brief yet pivotal appearance in the last minute of The Force Awakens.

It's possible fragments of Lucas" original outlines remain in the new trilogy - we did learn that in the "70s, Lucas had asked Hamill if he could reprise his role as a wizened Luke Skywalker, much like he does in The Last Jedi.

"What I wish is that they had been more accepting of his guidance and advice", Hamill said of Disney's relationship with Lucas. Lucas was not the only one who was miffed about this. This meant that original stars Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher were absent from the proceedings. Because he had an outline for 7, 8, and 9. "And it is vastly different to what they have done".

That's not to say Hamill is unhappy with the direction of the films made under the direction of J.J.

The truth is though that every Star Wars film to date - including the first spinoff film Rogue One - has a distinct feel that is connected not only in character, but also in tone and motivation. Even so, Lucas turned in a script for Star Wars 7 that was ultimately rejected by the brass at Disney and Lucasfilm.

"But then again, I don't want to be an old stick in the mud", Hamill confessed. "And as far as I can see they are more popular than ever".
