Ben Affleck as Batman in as still from Justice League

That's the question that so many fans of the DCEU have been asking themselves in relation to Ben Affleck and whether or not he'll be staying on as Batman.

Personally, I hope Ben Affleck sticks around as Batman.

But now Affleck is reviving the rumor mill for one more go-around.

Furthermore, in a new interview, he's kept the door open to directing a Batman film at some point in the future. That began months-long roller coaster that ended in January with the Oscar victor stepping aside as director, and his successor, Matt Reeves, scrapping his script. Affleck was cast as Batman. Why the change in heart? "I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script", he said. But perhaps Reeves' script is good enough that it has sparked Affleck's interest in the character again, after he seemed to have burned out throughout the Justice League press tour.

Rumours have been flying all over the place regarding the future of the DC Extended Universe, especially when it comes to the Caped Crusader.

It should be noted that he was vague as possible on whether he would return to play Batman, only explicitly expressing interest in directing. After dropping out of directing and writing The Batman, the honors since went to Matt Reeves, with Affleck seeming more than willing to continue his role in front of the camera. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make [Justice League].

It looks like it will all hinge on Flashpoint, which is being set up as the film that will shake up the entire DCEU and set the cinematic universe on a new path after multiple stumbles coming out the gate.

Production is expected to start on The Batman next year.
