Fury over Ball's comment about Lakers' coach

It erodes the trust that we've built with ESPN, and our coaches are upset because Luke Walton does not deserve that.

Ball ended up playing a healthy 30 minutes on his comeback, although Walton pulled him out of the game for a rest in the first quarter.

That was just way too far for Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, who proceeded to blast ESPN for posting the article and giving LaVar Ball a platform to speak these things.

Brandon Ingram powered the Lakers' balanced offensive attack with 20 points to help Los Angeles snap a nine-game losing streak with a 132-113 victory against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night at Staples Center.

LaVar Ball has consistently violated his pre-draft vow to Magic Johnson that he would not meddle with the team if they picked Lonzo, and that he was playing a character he could flip on and off like a light switch.

Of his father's comments, the younger Ball told reporters before the game "I'll play for anybody.my job is to play basketball". LiAngelo Ball left UCLA after getting suspended and arrested for shoplifting during the Bruins' season-opening trip to China in November, and LaMelo Ball was removed from Chino Hills High in California so he could join the Lithuanian club.

"In exchange for that, they should back up the coaches", Carlisle said.

Calling out Walton is just the latest in an ongoing series of sagas.

LaVar Ball has an explanation for the Lakers' slump. All the way back in March, Scott Van Pelt vowed he would not talk about Ball following comments he made about LeBron James' kids, prompting the superstar to say, "Keep my family out of your mouth". Walton said the comments didn't concern him, as long as they didn't adversely affect his player. And it's a win.

"As president of the coaches association, I view the recent ESPN article as a disgrace, quite honestly", Carlisle said before Sunday's game against the New York Knicks.

"Nobody's with these guys every day and when they have comments on teams, chemistry, that kind of stuff, they don't really know what's going on in the overall picture", Hornacek said.
