Lalu Prasad Yadav moves Jharkhand High Court against conviction, seeks bail

The court convicted Lalu Prasad and 15 others on December 23 in the case relating to the multi-million-rupee scam. The Indian Express quoted Ranchi's DSP (City) Raj Kumar Mehta as saying. However, sources said that the hearing will not proceed until Lalu is present in the court.

As per reports, the two were sent to Rachi jail after they picked up a fight with a neighbour Sumit Yadav and snatched Rs 10,000 from him on 23 December. Within minutes of the cops at Lower Bazar police station registering the FIR and sending a copy to the Ranchi civil court, Lakshman and Madan reached the court and surrendered.

Taking not of the matter, Adityanath has ordered Jhansi Commissioner to investigate the case and draft a report at the earliest.

The RJD, however, jumped to its leader's defence, insisting the presence of the two - Lakshman Mahto and Madan Yadav - was "conicidental".

In a major reprieve to Congress leader Manish Tiwari, the Jharkhand high court on Friday stayed the "contempt of court" notice issued by special CBI court, Ranchi, for allegedly making adverse comments against the fodder scam judgment that convicted RJD chief Lalu Prasad on December 23 past year.

However, the judge had not clarified as to who made these calls to him.

"This shows that Lalu's commitment to social justice is a sham and he cares only for himself and his family members", Kumar, a JD (U) MLC, said.

This is the eighth time Lalu Prasad Yadav has gone to jail, but it is the first time authorities are throwing rulebook on him.

He asked those making the claim that Mahto and Yadav were serving Prasad in jail to come up with evidence to back it. "It's unfortunate that both are being called as "sevadaar", said Shakti Singh Yadav, RJD spokesperson and MLA. The duo was released from the jail on Wednesday evening after it became known that they had conspired to get an FIR lodged against them so that they could stay in the jail and be at their master's beck and call.
