Chennai: Former Union Minister P Chidambaram's house was raided by the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday in connection with the money laundering investigation in the Aircel-Maxis case, reported the Press Trust of India.

Chidamdaram said that in a comdey of errors, the ED assumed that the Delhi residence belongs to Karti. "The ED has no jurisdiction to investigate under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)".

Chidambaram also said he had yesterday itself anticipated that as the notices were issued by the SC, "the ED has to conduct some drama in order to cover up some track and hence will conduct searches in Chennai".

It had lodged an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against the accused named in the CBI complaint which included Karti, INX media and its directors, Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, among others.

"Not surprised by the malicious vendetta being unleashed against senior Congress leaders including P Chidambaram & his son".

The raids were conducted in connection with INX media money laundering case filed against Karti Chidambaram by ED in May past year.

Former finance minister P Chidambaram, after the CBI searches on May 16, had issued a strong statement in response to the raids, saying the government was using the CBI and other agencies to target his son.

Addressing media persons P. Chidambaram said, "There is no FIR concerning a scheduled crime by CBI or any agency".

The ED raids in Chennai have concluded. "Everyday PM Modi and his government use ED and CBI as captive puppets to seek revenge from opposition", said Congress leader Randeep Surjewala.

Following the FIPB clearance, INX Media said it had received Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of Rs 46.20 million, but actually received Rs 3,053.60 million between August 2007 and May 2008, the ED said. He also said this was not an enquiry but just a raid, and kept emphasising that nothing was found or seized.
