'Get out of here, go!' Man witnesses moment flash flood hits Montecito

Remarkable footage shows Marco Farrell standing outside his Montecito home on Tuesday as a combination of mud, water and debris cascades down the road.

"Turn around! The flash flood's right here, get out of here, go!" he says. Get out of here!

The man can be heard shouting: "Oh my God, Mom!" before the mudslide sweeps dangerously down the street. As the driver pulls a U-turn and speeds away, the camera points up the road toward a fast-moving river of debris.

Before the mud water came rushing down the street Marco Farrell told a driver to leave quickly because it was unsafe.

Farrell told ABC that he, his parents and their dog took refuge in their hallway filled thigh-high with water for more than an hour as the flood rushed through their home.

The mud quickly filled his home and mud could be seen splattered against his white walls. He later wrote on Facebook that he and his family had survived the dramatic incident, posting: "We are alive".

He said on Facebook that 4 feet 9 inches of "raging mud" filled their home and that his vehicle was swept away. "My 4runner is gone from the driveway".

On Thursday morning, 17 people were confirmed dead and 16 were missing after the mudslides in Santa Barbara County.

NBC Los Angeles reported 13 people died and more than 20 were injured in the slides.

Despite his home filled with water and mud, Farrell and his family found solace in the home's hallway.
