Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku may sue Everton owner over 'voodoo' claim

LUKAKU SET TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST EVERTON'S OWNER OVER VOODOO CLAIM

Romelu Lukaku, the Manchester United striker, plans to seek legal advice over claims from Farhad Moshiri, the Everton owner, that he chose to leave the Premier League club after receiving a "voodoo message".

"Romelu is very Catholic and voodoo is not part of his life or his beliefs", the representative added.

BBC Sport understands the Belgian has been left upset and angry by the claims.

"He distances himself from these beliefs and this statement and will now see what judicial steps can be taken in relation to them", the representative said.

"He said he was on a pilgrimage in Africa or somewhere and he had a voodoo and got the message that he needs to go to Chelsea", said Moshiri, although the player was to snub Chelsea ultimately and go to United for £75million.

He went further to tell the reporters that Lukaku had no faith in Everton and no confidence in Mr Moshiri's project and that was the reason behind the rejected offer. "That is why he did not want to sign on any condition".

In March a year ago, Mino Raiola, Lukaku's agent, claimed a new deal to stay at Everton was "99.99 per cent done" but the player's position changed.

"He [Lukaku] wanted to make the next step in his career and wanted the security to be able to leave", the representative told the BBC.

"We offered him a better deal than Chelsea and his agent came to Finch Farm to sign the contract", Moshiri said.

The Iranian billionaire, who has put £150m of his own money into the Merseyside club to clear debts, said the Toffees offered the striker an "unbelievable" amount of money to stay and the "issue was not financial".

The Belgium worldwide has since scored 16 goals for United this season and Moshiri is adamant Everton could not have done anything else to keep him on Merseyside. If I tell you what we offered, you won't believe it. "The first summer I spent three months with his agent, him, his mother and his family and we managed to keep him for another year".

It is understood he rejected numerous opportunities to discuss a new contract as his desire to leave Everton was absolute.

"Then, last summer, we offered him a better deal than Chelsea". Chelsea bid for the striker and were favourites to re-sign the player they had previously sold to Everton.
