Martin O'Neill Set For Stoke City Talks Tonight

In charge Martin O’Neill’s talks with Stoke City have changed the dynamic of his relationship with his employers the FAI

The Football Association of Ireland could be about to lose Martin O'Neill from their grasp after the Ireland manager last night held what was understood to be a productive meeting with Stoke City about their managerial vacancy.

O'Neill undertook a similar tactic before signing his last contract with the FAI in September 2016, where 15 weeks had elapsed before he actually signed a new deal.

O'Neill has never hid his interest in returning to the Premier League circuit and it is believed he has conveyed that stance to the Stoke hierarchy. While it was thought that Keane might stay with the FAI in a relatively smooth succession deal, the paper reports that Keane is likely to follow O'Neill across the water.

While the Stoke board are disposed to widening their search to include the likes of Espanyol boss Quique Sanchez Flores, the team's position in the relegation zone means a swift appointment is desirable.

Keane, who has worked with...

And now both the Irish Independent and Irish Examiner are reporting Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane is likely to join O'Neill if he moves to England.

Should Keane not leave then Steve Walford, Steve Guppy and Seamus McDonagh are in contention for roles.

The FAI insisted that yesterday was no different to any other day, and that O'Neill would be flying to the UEFA Nations League draw later this month as Irish manager.

RTE pundit Dunphy has been critical of O'Neill in the past but this time has taken aim at the association.

"I can't think of any other Association that would allow their manager to stall in this way", Dunphy told News At One on RTÉ Radio 1.

The former Leicester, Aston Villa and Sunderland manager verbally agreed a two-year contract extension with the FAI before their World Cup play-off defeat by Denmark in November, but has yet to sign it.
