Pro Bowler to Call Pro Bowl

Matt Hasselbeck

Matt Hasselbeck "auditioning" for MNF role during Pro Bowl broadcast

"The process for determining our new Monday Night Football booth is already underway", Druley said.

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will get his turn to call the 2018 Pro Bowl on January 28. "This is one of the most high-profile and attractive positions in all of sports broadcasting so we want to take our time to ensure we make the best decision".

Steve Young, who is also an analyst for ESPN, was another potential candidate to replace Gruden, but he said Thursday on KNBR he wasn't interested in the job.

ESPN announced a replacement for Jon Gruden, at least for one game. He regularly appears in the Bristol studios on Sundays and is a part of the Monday Night Football Countdown pregame show.

"Matt has experience calling games and will be a great fit alongside Sean McDonough for this Pro Bowl assignment". Well, Hasselback will get his shot at an "audition" with McDonough when the two pair up for the Pro Bowl.

The company announced that Hasselbeck, now a studio analyst, will be the color commentator alongside Sean McDonough and reporter Lisa Salters for the exhibition. ESPN can go numerous different directions with Gruden's replacement and will likely, as Druley said, consider a variety of candidates both internal and external.

The 2018 Pro Bowl airs Sunday, Jan. 28 at 12:00 p.m. PT on ESPN and ABC, live from Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
