Strong quake strikes central Myanmar

The quake was felt across the country including Yangon, Taungoo, Phyu, Pyi and Nay Pyi Taw cities, officials said.

He said there were at least four aftershocks, three measuring a magnitude 5.3 and one a magnitude 4.7. USGS said that there is a low likelihood of casualties and damage but noted that residential structures in the region are typically vulnerable to quake shaking.

He said people near the epicenter should be cautious about staying in old buildings and placing heavy objects such as televisions in high places.
