Towns, Bjelica ignite late rally in Timberwolves win

Minnesota's Karl-Anthony Towns accumulates league-best 35th double-double in Wednesday night win

Porzingis couldn't keep pace with Karl-Anthony Towns, the top overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, who came within one assist of recording a triple-double in the Timberwolves' 118-108 victory over the Knicks.

Eight of the nine Timberwolves players that appeared in the game scored 10 or more points. Taj Gibson added 17 points and six rebounds. Jimmy Butler and Andrew Wiggins are two players that would make the deal work, but the Wolves would never deal them. Jeff Teague had 12 points and eight assists. Gorgui Dieng led the bench with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals. The home team built a lead as large as 19 points, culminating in a Jamal Crawford 3-pointer that would have been a 4-point play but for a rare missed free throw from the three-time Sixth Man of the Year. The Knicks had seven players score in double figures including point guard Jarrett Jack, who scored 18.

Tim Hardaway Jr., returning from a stress fracture in his leg, chipped in with 16 points, while Kristaps Porzingis had 17, Enes Kanter 16, Courtney Lee 14, Michael Beasley 13 and Kyle O'Quinn 12 for NY. He did miss an open 3-pointer on the last possession of the game that would have given Towns his second career triple-double, however, so the team's chemistry will probably tank because of Teague's selfishness.

The Wolves move to 28-16, fourth in the West and a half-game behind the Spurs for third.

Up 19, the Wolves allowed the Knicks to pull within nine on Porzingis' basket with 2:10 left.

The Knicks jumped out to a modest early lead, causing the Wolves to play catch-up for much of the first half. The Wolves' perimeter defense was just a step slow in this one, and the Knicks made them pay, which allowed them to hang around until the very end of the game.

After falling behind 27-24 in the first quarter, the Wolves outscored the Knicks 94-81 in the final three quarters. Minnesota was due for an upset loss following three straight home blowouts against New Orleans, Cleveland and Oklahoma City. It's their longest home winning streak since winning 14 in a row from December 16, 2003 to February 6, 2004.

Towns, Bjelica (10 points) and Crawford (10) were three of eight Timberwolves scoring in double figures.

At a price of $9,600, Towns produced 35.9 FanDuel points and 3.74x value. His double-double was his 36th of the season.
