It comes after an eight-year-old girl from Luweero died earlier this month, sparking fears a completely new disease could be spreading.

"Results from Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe tested positive for the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever and negative for other viral Hemorrhagic Fevers like Ebola, Marburg, Rift Valley Fever and Sosuga", said Opendi.

Symptoms of the viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) include bleeding from orifices including their eyes, anus and mouths, headaches, vomiting, diarrhoea and muscle pain.

And medics are now concerned they are on the verge of a health emergency - worse that the Black Death outbreak past year - after the sudden death of a child in the Nakaseke district of neighbouring Uganda.

The girl dropped dead with the symptoms of an extremely contagious viral disease than can kill up to 40% of all infected.

Uganda health minster Sarah Opendi confirmed emergency response teams are now being deployed to the districts of Nakaseke and Luweero after the girl died in Kiwoko Hospital.

On Jan. 5, Opendi told reporters that the samples taken from the suspected 9-year-old boy tested negative of CCHF, contrary to the claims from Nakaseke districts authorities on the outbreak.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there is no vaccine against the disease available for people or animals.

Animals become infected by the bite of infected ticks and the virus remains in their bloodstream for about one week after infection, allowing the tick-animal-tick cycle to continue when another tick bites.

A CCHF outbreak constitutes a threat to public health, according to the World Health Organization.

The three victims in South Sudan, who died in late December, had no history of close contact - and their burials were unsupervised.

"Strengthened surveillance in affected human and animal populations is needed to facilitate rapid detection of human and animal cases and response; strengthened capacity to clinically manage any new cases is also needed in the affected area".
