Apple CEO Tim Cook Makes a Surprise Appearance at Reno Facility Groundbreaking

Today's celebration of a new warehouse facility at the Reno data center happened alongside a big announcement from Apple about a $350B investment in the USA economy along with a new campus. The plan calls for new programs to support teachers and teacher training, as well as more funding for Apple's ConnectED program, which teaches app coding skills to students in historically underserved communities. The downtown facility will reportedly be used for shipping and receiving, supporting Apple's large data center just east of Reno-Sparks. Apple will announce the location of this new facility later in the year.

As reported by Reno Gazette Journal, Tim Cook unexpectedly showed up to celebrate the groundbreaking of Apple's latest facility today at its data center in Reno, Nevada.

Details of the expanded $5 billion Advanced Manufacturing Fund were sparse, but Apple notes that it "support [s] innovation among American manufacturers and help [s] others establish a presence in the U.S.".

The company's planned investments will focus on US operations, domestic suppliers and manufacturing partners.

In addition to company projects, Apple said it will pay $38 billion in taxes based on recent changes to the tax law.

Apple works with over 9,000 American suppliers in all 50 states.

Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said: "We are focusing our investments in areas where we can have a direct impact on job creation and job preparedness".
