Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins Will Smith in Gemini Man

Now that her role in Fargo is far-gone (sorry), Mary Elizabeth Winstead has lined up her next project - the female lead in Ang Lee's forthcoming thriller Gemini Man. From David Benioff (Game of Thrones) comes the story of an older NSA agent named Henry (Smith) who is trying to retire.

The film follows an over-the-hill hitman who faces off against a younger clone of himself. Winstead emerged the victor for the role amongst eyed actresses that included Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2). Winstead will play an operative tasked with spying on Henry before teaming up with him. The film will hit theaters on October 4, 2019.

The rights to Gemini Man were acquired by Skydance after having been in development for two decades.

Clive Owen has also joined the cast but his role hasn't been revealed, though Variety report he could be the antagonist and Lee is directing the Paramount movie, which has been in the pipeline since 1997. Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Amazing Race) is producing with Don Murphy set to serve as executive producer.

With this piece of casting news, Gemini Man, which was originally expected to begin production in the spring, is now looking at a February filming schedule. What do you think of the casting of Mary Elizabeth Winstead?
