JCPOA (The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) refers to the Iran nuclear deal that was signed in July 2015.

"Clearly the failure of the JCPOA, especially as a result of one of the parties.would be an alarming message for the entire global community architecture, including the prospects for dealing with the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula", Lavrov said.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday waived nuclear sanctions against Iran, but warned that he would not do it again unless the deal is to be fixed. Trump announced on January 12 that if Congress and the deal's European signatories did not fix the deal's "disastrous flaws", the USA would withdraw. Nephew served as the lead sanctions expert for the U.S. State Department negotiating with Iran from 2013 to 2014.

Tehran has ruled out any changes in the deal, while the other signatories - Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russian Federation - have closed ranks in support of the accord.

Under a United Nations resolution enshrining the nuclear deal, Iran is also "called upon" to refrain from work on ballistic missiles created to deliver nuclear weapons for up to eight years.

Haley called Iran on Thursday "the leading cause of instability in an unstable part of the world".

Haley accused Russian Federation of vetoing three council resolutions and preventing the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons from holding Assad's regime accountable for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Lavrov also blasted a number of Western nations, which, he says, chose to turn a blind eye to the use of chemical arms by terrorists, making groundless accusations against the Syrian government instead. He was speaking at the opening of a special Security Council session devoted to nonproliferation headed by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Trump agreed to waive sanctions on the Islamic Republic in mid-January as part of the 2015 nuclear pact, but pledged that this time it was the country's "last chance", threatening a us walkout. Kazakhstan, which voluntarily renounced the world's fourth-largest nuclear arsenal that it inherited from the former USSR, has made nuclear disarmament the main priority for the month it occupies the Council's rotating presidency.
