Australia Test spinner Nathan Lyon will captain the Prime Minister's XI against England in aTwenty20 match in Canberra next month, Cricket Australia said Saturday.

The game has been scheduled on 2nd February ahead of the Twenty20 global tri-series that also involves the hosts Australia and New Zealand.

The 30-year-old has been pivotal in Australia claiming a 4-0 series win in the recently concluded Ashes series against Australia at home and has been the vital cog in the baggy green's Test set up.

The match will serve as a crucial opportunity for Lyon, who will continue his push to become Australia's go-to spinner in all three formats.

However, after he was overlooked for Australia's ODI squad, Lyon linked with Big Bash side Sydney Sixers and made an immediate impact, taking six wickets in three games, while conceding less than five runs per over.

The match will be played on Manuka Oval in Canberra, where Lyon worked as a curator before his Test career.

"He's just gone to another level really. I think his confidence has flown through to his white ball cricket, as well as his red ball", Waugh said.
