The memo doesn't vindicate Trump. It's more proof of obstruction

In a letter to Trump, Schumer says that the public is getting a one-sided account of the FBI's role in the investigation into the Trump campaign's possible Russian Federation ties.

In his first comments since the House Intelligence Committee released a once-secret and controversial memo, President Donald Trump on Saturday said the Republican-penned document vindicates him, once again asserting that there was "no collusion" between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The memo acknowledges that Papadopoulos, not Page, "triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016". There was no Collusion and there was no Obstruction (the word now used because, after one year of looking endlessly and finding NOTHING, collusion is dead).

Democrats spent the weekend pushing back against the claim by President Donald Trump and some Republicans that corruption has poisoned the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller into possible coordination between Trump associates and the Kremlin during the 2016 election.

The Intelligence Committee of the US House of Representatives has voted unanimously to release a memo authored by its Democrat members that were written in response to a similar document from Republicans that accused the Federal Beaurue of Investigation (FBI) and Justice Department of being biased against the White House.

In a series of television interviews, several lawmakers on February 4 expressed hope that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US election and any ties to the Trump campaign would continue without interference.

Trump has said the GOP memo "vindicates" him.

The Intelligence Committee voted along party lines last week to release the memo despite warnings from national security officials.

But the dossier was not the sole factor that prompted the FBI to launch its investigation or submit a FISA application targeting Page. "This memo totally vindicates "Trump" in probe", he wrote on Twitter.

"I never heard that", Priebus said on NBC's Meet the Press.

Page told Fox News that there was an abuse of power from those who were against Trump, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Fox News that they will look into the allegations of the Nunes memo.

Trump on Friday wouldn't say whether he plans to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the top Justice Department official overseeing the Russian Federation investigation, or if he retained confidence in Rosenstein.

"If House Republicans believe they've set the stage for the president to end this investigation, they're basically saying that one man is above the law", Durbin said.

Former FBI Director James Comey weighed in and said the memo doesn't add up to much. The South Carolina congressman said he understood Democrats such as Adam Schiff were upset that certain pieces of information were missing from the GOP memo, but Gowdy said he hopes that they are equally concerned that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act would allow the court to grant warrants based on paid-for opposition research.

Trump also made it clear that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's position was far from safe. Yet it also says the investigation actually began several months earlier.

Sky News US Correspondent Cordelia Lynch said a "big partisan political battle" was brewing.
