Alan Partridge rises Phoenix-like at the BBC

The show will see Alan handed a career lifeline - the chance to stand in (temporarily) as co-host on the fictional evening weekday magazine show, "This Time".

Details have emerged about Alan Partridge's return to the BBC as filming begins on Steve Coogan's latest iteration of the classic comedy character.

"This Time is the flawless shop window for a man of Alan's gravitas and will, or should, see him finally recognised as one of the heavyweight broadcasters of his era", a press release reads.

"This Time" itself is a heady mix of consumer affairs, current affairs, viewer interaction and highbrow interview, with Alan hoping it will showcase him as one of the heavyweight broadcasters of his era. It's basically The One Show of the Partridge universe.

Coogan is set to be joined by Susannah Fielding as his female co-presenter Jennie Gresham, along with the return of Tim Key as Simon "formerly Sidekick Simon" Denton.

This Time With Alan Partridge marks the character's first major appearance on the BBC since the sitcom I'm Alan Partridge, which ended in 2002.

"The BBC is what Alan always wanted to be, and in making the narrative work in a logical sense, Alan is a creature of the BBC". "You've got to doubt it". The brothers have been working on Partridge since his revival on Mid Morning Matters.

The trio is also executive producing with Christine Langan, who runs Coogan's prodco, Baby Cow Productions. Since then, Coogan has played the controversial broadcaster on various occasions, the most notable being the film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
