Canada wins its first two medals at PyeongChang Olympics



- Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot on his silver-medal winning third run in slopestyle.

"I'm on a cloud even thought there's not really clouds there, but yeah, it's my first Olympic medal, it's a little check next to that, it's mission accomplished for me here, and I'm really happy", Parrot said. "I'm sore a lot, but (that's) to be expected", he said.

"It keeps me up every day and I have a really, really nice team".

"When you get injured usually it's like, 'Oh man I'm so bummed, but I can't wait until the next time I can snowboard,"' McMorris said. Dufour-Lapointe had a strong final run as she tried to become the first woman to defend an Olympic mogul title, but she was edged out of top spot by France's Perrine Laffont.

Inside at curling, the third day of mixed doubles play starts with a meeting between two of the favorites to win the gold medal.

At Alpensia, Arnd Peiffer of Germany won gold in the men's biathlon 10km sprint, with silver going to Michal Krcmar of the Czech Republic and bronze to Italy's Dominik Windisch.

"I didn't think I'd ever snowboard again when I was laying there after I hit that tree, "McMorris told CBC".

Norway was victorious against China in a tie-breaker which decided who would secure the last berth for semifinals.

In the final run, Nicholson and Toutant were unable to improve on their positions, although Toutant came within inches of landing a final trick to vault himself towards the podium.

The Olympic athletes of Russian Federation also took their first medal as Semen Elistratov finished in third place.

SOLID GRIP - Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir scored 80.51 points for their short dance to help Canada lead in figure skating's team event.

The Canadians were fully aware of all the medal possibilities in slopestyle, saying as far back as Monday, right after they got their first look at the Phoenix Snow Park course, that all four of them had medal potential on it.
