Chloe Kim's secret to combat nerves? Churros

If her last two tweets are any indication, I'm a big fan of Kim's version of the Olympic diet.

Whatever works. Her second run was even better than her first.

The field began with 24 entrants in Pyeongchang, South Korea, with the best of two runs deciding the finalists field.

A 17-year-old tweeting about ice cream wouldn't normally be considered newsworthy-unless that 17-year-old is American snowboarder Chloe Kim, a rising star at the 2018 PyeongChang Games who felt the urge to tweet about this craving in between qualifying runs in the halfpipe competition. No one else scored higher than 87.5.

The 17-year-old US snowboard sensation had an outstanding first run with a 91.50, putting her in first place in the women's halfpipe qualifying. She qualified for the halfpipe final with a score of 95.50. She avoided mistakes but also seemed to be a bit conservative while scoring an 83.75.

She'll be competing against her U.S. teammates, Maddie Mastro, Kelly Clark and Arielle Gold, in the final.

Kim is one of the most anticipated athletes here at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, due to her extraordinary performances in worldwide competitions, including her two gold medals at the 2015 Youth Olympic Games. The best of three runs will decide the victor, which should lead to plenty of drama.
