A male officer was shot Sunday night during a barricaded gunman situation on Detroit's east side, police said.

The Detroit police officer was responding to a home in the 19400 block of Lamont and East Outer Drive Sunday night when he was shot.

He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The scene is now blocked off in a large area near E. Outer Drive and Ryan.

Police believe the gunman is also responsible for killing two women and injuring a man.

The gunman is a CPL holder, with seven guns registered to him. Police say the shooting suspect has mental issues.

Wayne County Sheriff deputies and the Michigan State Police are also at the scene.
