Lee's meeting with the members of North Korean delegation, including ceremonial head of state Kim Yong Nam, will take place at the Grand Walkerhill hotel in Seoul, according to Yonhap news agency.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited the South's President Moon Jae-in for a summit in Pyongyang today, Seoul said, even as the USA warned against falling for Pyongyang's Olympic charm offensive.

During an Olympics reception and at the sporting event's opening ceremony, Pence was not trying to avoid North Korean officials in attendance, the senior administration official told reporters on Saturday, adding that he was trying to ignore them.

During their rare talks on Saturday, Kim Yo Jong invited the progressive president, who favors inter-Korea dialogue as a means to resolve the North Korean nuclear standoff, to Pyongyang.

The trip has the potential to become something of a coming out party - certainly for Kim Yo Jong, but also for her deeply isolated country.

If a summit does go ahead, it will be the first between the two Koreas since 2007.

There are "three" languages in one team, she said, referring to English, South Korean and North Korean.

The poor showing didn't stop the sellout crowd from cheering throughout much of the game, the chants led often by North Korea's famous cheering group, and it didn't lessen the import of the event.

Kim Jong-un wanted to meet Moon "at an early date", a spokesman for the Blue House said.

North Korean cheerleaders let rip in support for Choe Un Song but he was eliminated in the heats for the 1,500m short-track speed skating, failing to reach the semi-finals.

The two are easily confused, but there is a world of difference between them: Pyongyang is the capital of nuclear-armed North Korea, while Pyeongchang is the South Korean region hosting the Winter Olympics.

A senior USA administration official told reporters that Pence did not discuss North Korea's invitation to Moon when the two leaders watched short track speed skating together.

The Korean team, guaranteed a berth in the Games as the host nation, is not expected to win a medal.

While the meeting would be a diplomatic coup for Moon - whose decision to pursue warmer relations with the North stands in stark contrast to his conservative predecessor - it could strain relations with the United States, which has appeared uncomfortable at the warm welcome afforded to the North Korean delegation over the past few days.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News' Lester Holt on the sidelines of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Warmbier said he did not find it hard seeing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's sister enjoying the moment at Friday's Opening Ceremony.

One calligraphy expert described her as "positive, upbeat and very goal-oriented" based on the precisely angular, somewhat girlish script she left in the guest book at the South's presidential Blue House. Others fear it is an omen of larger political ambitions of the North.

Turns out it wasn't a secret plan for the newly unified Korean women's hockey team to beat Switzerland.

The officials, who spoke on condition because they were not authorized to discuss the USA approach publicly, also denied that Pence had been blindsided by the seating arrangement - with the North Koreans in the row behind him, allowing Kim Yo Jong to be easily pictured in profile next to the vice-president.

Along with the rest of the North's senior delegation, Kim is to have lunch with Moon in Seoul.
