Plane refused take off by police after reported French rugby brawl

Scotland v France Second Screen

France got off to a great start against the Scots, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead and they were ahead 20-14 at the break, but a spirited fightback from Gregor Townsend's men, which was aided by French indiscipline, turned things around in the second half and the hosts ran out winners by a scoreline of 32-26.

The police report was made following the French team's defeat by Scotland in the Six Nations on Sunday.

According to British and French media, a plane carrying the French team home was blocked on the tarmac by police as it prepared to take off from Edinburgh on Monday and players were taken off to be questioned over a suspected fight during the night.

"These inquiries have established that no crime has been committed".

Some of the players were questioned over an alleged incident that took place in Edinburgh city centre in the early hours of Monday.

It is understood that members of the team were taken off a chartered Jet2 flight to Paris due to leave Edinburgh airport at 11am on Monday morning.

A message sent at 11.46am from the French Rugby Federation's official Twitter account confirmed that some players were being questioned by police, adding: "We are waiting for further information".

The French news site Rugbyrama said several players were seen "tipsy" in the Tiger Lily bar on George Street.
