Rahul Gandhi slams RSS chief Bhagwat for his remarks over Indian Army

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh army in 3 days to fight Pakistan

"Shame on you Mr Bhagwat, for disrespecting our martyrs and our Army", Rahul Gandhi tweeted this morning, using the hashtag #ApologiseRSS. RSS chief made the remark while he was addressing a gathering at Zila school ground on the last day of his six-day visit of Muzaffarpur.

Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat landed in a controversy on Monday morning over his recent comments that the RSS has the ability to prepare an "army" to fight for the country in 3 days, which would take the Army 6-7 months. The Hindutva group claimed their chief's statement had been "misrepresented", and that he had compared RSS workers with the general population and not Army soldiers.

"The Sangh will prepare military personnel within three days, something the Army would do in 6-7 months to do".

Gandhi asked Bhagwat to apologise for questioning "preparedness of Indian Army". "The Army may take six to seven days to prepare for a war, but RSS can put together an army in just three days, if necessary", said Bhagwat in his address to RSS cadres and leaders in Muzaffarpur.

His trumpeting of the military might of the influential RSS, which often describes itself as only a socio-cultural organisation, immediately raised eyebrows in political circles, partly because of the disparaging comparison he made with the army, and also because the military exercises imparted in RSS shakhas have been widely documented. In emergency situation (not congress emergency) every Indian must volunteer to stand with Defence Forces. The RSS chief added that the workers are always happily ready to make supreme sacrifice for their country.
