Seven injured in wrong-way crash on Bronx River Parkway

The driver who allegedly drove the wrong-way on the Bronx River Parkway Friday and injured six people is now facing charges. Police said the driver of a vehicle was going southbound in the northbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway at about 3 a.m. when he slammed head-on into a auto full of people visiting from Florida. The people inside that vehicle range in age from 15 to 50 years old.

The wrong-way driver, a New York City man, is also being treated at Westchester Medical Center and is expected to face criminal charges today, O'Leary said.

While police have not released details about the identity or the extent of the injuries sustained by the crash victims, officials say everyone involved will survive. The others are listed as one person in good condition, two in fair condition, one in serious condition, and one person is still in an unknown condition.

Police are now trying to figure out where Caceres got on the highway.

Six relatives from Florida had just flown into NY overnight and had rented the Dodge SUV that was heading north when it was hit on the parkway, just south of the Dewitt Avenue overpass, said Kieran O'Leary, a Westchester County police spokesman.

7 people are injured after a wrong-way driver crashed into an oncoming auto on the Cross County Parkway and Sprain Brook Parkway. "It does seem to occur occasionally".
