Lightning strikes over the Gold Coast on Sunday night.

South-east Queenslanders could face a second round of ferocious storms after severe cells lashed the region on Sunday night, dumping huge hail and wreaking havoc on the power network.

With more storms forecast on Monday residents were warned to move cars under cover, be wary of fallen power lines and seek shelter if necessary.

Further north in Logan, 58,000 properties were left in the dark, with Energex still working to get the power back on to 46,000 homes and business there12 hours later.

The Bureau says damaging winds and large hailstones will be likely. At Boonah, west of Brisbane, residents posted pictures of huge hail stones on social media.

In Brisbane, fans of U.S. band Paramore had to evacuate Brisbane's Riverstage venue before the show began, running for cover as a spectacular and unsafe light show unleashed.

Around 50,000 homes remain without power in south east Queensland following a violent storm that has ripped roofs off homes, brought down around 500 power lines and several trees, and forced the evacuation of one of Brisbane's biggest concert venues.

He was transported to Prince Charles Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Parents are being advised to check the Department of Education website as a number of schools may be affected by the storm damage. "The chance of a gusty thunderstorm during this afternoon and evening", it said.
