Liam Miller has been farewelled in Ireland

The service will begin at 11.30am in St John the Baptist church in the footballer's home village of Ovens, County Cork.

He joined Manchester United in 2004 and players donned black armbands in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United, while former manager Sir Alex Ferguson described Miller as "a good professional who served the club in an excellent manner".

Former Republic player and manager Steve Staunton attended the funeral, along with Roy Keane, Martin O'Neill and John O'Shea.

A spokesman for Hibs said: "We were very saddened to learn of the passing of Liam Miller following a short battle with cancer".

The Offertory Gifts reflected the loves of the young man's life - three jerseys for Ireland, Celtic and Manchester United as well as photos of his wife and children, his parents and siblings as well as the Eire Og team he captained as a youngster.

"We would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends at this sad time".

After two years at Old Trafford, including a loan spell with Leeds United, he left for Sunderland before heading north of the border to play for Hibs.

Celtic fans, players and coaching staff held a minute's silence ahead of their game against Partick Thistle on Saturday afternoon.

In Ireland, where Miller won 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland, he has been described as a major loss to Irish sport.

David Beckham and Wayne Rooney were among those who led the tributes to their former Manchester United teammate.

Irish president Michael D Higgins said it was with great sadness that he had learned of the death of Miller, who brought skill and passion to his career in football at home and overseas.

The former Manchester United, Celtic, and Cork City midfielder passed away on Friday following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Irish president Michael D Higgins said it was with great sadness that he had learned of the death of Miller, who brought skill and passion to his career in football at home and overseas. He gave so much joy to people and honoured the God who gave him those talents.

Miller made over 70 appearances for the Easter Road side between 2009 and 2011, scoring seven times and his former clubs paid their own tributes before matches over the weekend. Cork, and City manager John Caulfield yesterday urged the people of Cork to "turn out in force" for the funeral.
