"This fighting is absolutely unacceptable".

"We would like to see a cease-fire, the end of the war, but the terrorists, I am not sure, are in agreement", he said.

The draft resolution proposed by Sweden and Kuwait also calls for an immediate end to all sieges including in Eastern Ghouta.

"Let's be realistic", he said. When those fleeing the horrifying attacks reached nearby Iran, Kurds there lined the roads to offer whatever they had to the refugees.

The US-led coalition said it carried out air strikes against pro-government fighters to defend its allies in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

More than 20 Turkish soldiers and 150 YPG fighters have been killed since the military offensive began, he said.

"Attacks on health facilities in Idlib Governorate continued with an alarming frequency", it added.

"We are yet again appalled by the recent reports of the Assad regime's use of chemical weapons and the escalation of bombings that has resulted in dozens of civilian deaths in the last 48 hours".

The State Department says it's "extremely concerned" about growing violence in Idlib, as well as in the eastern Ghouta area near Damascus.

Kurdish news sources said the the helicopter was shot down in Afrin's Rajo district.

The U.S. said Russian Federation must use its influence over Bashar al-Assad's forces to ensure Syria immediately allows United Nations aid to reach vulnerable civilians.

Diplomats said it was unclear whether Russian Federation would use its veto to block the new draft resolution. "We might lose a helicopter, but they'll pay the price for this", he said in Istanbul.

"If there is no ceasefire, if this is all left unheard, we can not imagine the scale of the humanitarian disaster", she said.

In Eastern Ghouta, the surge in attacks has coincided with the sharp rise in violence in Idlib.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 56 people, including 10 children, were killed on Thursday.

The Observatory said 211 people have been killed in eastern Ghouta since Monday.

Washington, however, continues to manipulate its "partners" to maintain a stronghold in Syria, and even mulled creating a 30,000-strong Kurdish dominant border force to secure control of Syria's north.

The office of U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres said it was "following closely the alarming military escalation throughout Syria and the risky spillover across its borders".

"The Russians fly combat operations over there nearly daily", former U.S. Ambassador Robert Ford told Newsy. During the battles in Kobani, YPG fighters got support from Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces.

Western powers have expressed alarm over the government's campaign against Eastern Ghouta, where 400,000 people have been besieged since 2013, facing severe food and medicine shortages. However, the US made a decision to step back, saying that they no longer held an interest in Afrin.

But the U.S. has taken a different view to the YPG, providing it with weapons in the Syrian group's battle against Islamic State militants.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a United Kingdom -based monitoring group, 59 civilians, including 15 children, have been killed on Thursday alone in eastern Ghouta.

The military has also said that only terrorist targets are being destroyed and "utmost importance" is being put on avoiding harming civilians. It said the dead includes a medic and at least three children and eight women.

Turkey's military announced the death of another soldier in its operation against a syrian Kurdish militia in northern Syria, on Sunday.

Turkey insists that its operation in Afrin is "fully in line with worldwide law", saying that the presence of the Syrian Kurdish YPG in the area is a "security threat" to the country. A stronghold of Islamic State militants until late past year, the province also was the group's main source of oil revenue.

SANA labeled it an "aggression" and a "new massacre". "These sieges involve the global crimes of indiscriminate bombardment and deliberate starvation of the civilian population", said Paulo Pinheiro, the chair of the commission.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has reported the downing of a Turkish military helicopter in Syria. It is also unclear where the incident took place.

Eastern Ghouta and Idlib, a northern province where violence also flared this week, are both so-called de-escalation zones agreed past year in a bid to pave the way for an end to the conflict. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
