This results in low TRPs and lesser revenue for the BCCI, which is the world's richest cricket board.

The Indian men's team have endured a busy 2017-18 year, playing the likes of Australia, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Sri Lanka (home and away), and are now in South Africa, getting ready for a three-match bilateral T20I series.

Sources said the Indian team management and CoA chairman Vinod Rai recently discussed the outcome of the Test series and it was mutually agreed that more Indians cricketers should be encouraged to spend time in the County Championship or play India A matches before the series begins.

India's home season will be a short one with the West Indies coming for two Tests, five ODIs and three T20 Internationals during October-November.

While the Indian cricket calender starts in April with the cash-rich Indian Premier League, the national team will start its campaign in June with a short two-match T20 series against Ireland.

India will also host Afghanistan to welcome them to Test cricket.

BCCI sources said a few Test specialists could be encouraged to play in the Rahul Dravid-coached India-A team's tour of England before the senior team begins its five-match Test series from August 1 onwards. There is a window for the Asia Cup (this edition will be 50 overs) keeping in mind the World Cup, but the date and the venue is yet to be finalised. Post the England tour, the Men in Blue will play the Asia Cup and then host West Indies before travelling to Australia and New Zealand.

After the tour of West Indies, India will go Down Under to play Australia in four Tests, three T20 Internationals and three ODIs in November-December.

There was widespread criticism of the board as the Indian team's departure to South Africa was delayed to accommodate a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
