Magnetic storm on March18 will have massive impact, say Scientists

Mark the date in your calendars; on the 18 of March we will be hit by a magnetic storm!

It generally affects telecommunication systems-upsetting radio communications, causing radar blackouts and disrupting radio navigation system.

Magnetic storms could be disruptive for electronics on Earth. The Russian Academy of Sciences has just announced that another magnetic storm is coming in Earth's direction and it will certainly affect the planet's geomagnetic atmosphere.

Russian scientists claim, as reported by denofgeek.com, that March 18 magnetic storm may cause headaches, dizziness and sleep disturbances for some people across the globe.

One article suggested that this storm may show cracks in Earth's magnetic field.

Magnetic storms are particularly tricky events since they also tend to disturb power grids. This is why, whenever a solar storm is supposed to hit Earth, engineers are told that they should shut down systems that are not essential and be ready for their power grid to go through some fluctuations. For the February 15 storm, Local 10 reported that Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) had switched from their primary operational spacecraft Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR).

European Union's Joint Research Centre (JRC) said powerful solar storms have the capabilities to negatively impact crucial navigation and control systems across the continent's railway network.
