1 injured in helicopter crashed at Perth Airport in Scotland

A helicopter has crashed at Perth Airport in Scotland during take-off this morning.

Connor Wojtowicz, 23, who lives at the airport, was among the first on the scene.

"I was sitting in my room, which is 150ft from where the helicopter came down", Mr Wojtowicz told the Courier.

'I heard it take off and it didn't sound right at all, then there was a big bang'.

A photo of the helicopter demonstrates the severely harmed create close to Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) base.

Airport fire officers were joined by three units of Scottish Fire and Rescue along with their command unit.

A man was seen crawling from the stricken aircraft following the incident.

The privately-owned helicopter crashed around 10.30am on Tuesday during ground tests.

Officials confirmed the pilot had been taken to hospital.

The helicopter is believed to be used for training purposes and is not one of the air ambulances, which are predominantly yellow.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "There is one male casualty with a leg injury".

The area where the helicopter came down was cordoned off while police interviewed witnesses.

Eyewitnesses reported the helicopter being left a "mangled mess".
