NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also noted that the Packers are among the teams interested in Watkins.

At this point, it's a longshot for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it's nonetheless nice to see the franchise's name reportedly in the mix for the services of free agent wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Watkins would arrive healthy and as a certified speedster who would add a missing dimension to the offense. Burton has drawn interest from multiple teams, including the Lions. Both were tendered at the original-round level, $1.907 million, giving the Bears the right of first refusal if they sign offer sheets elsewhere.

Adding Watkins, a reliable tight end, and some other lesser talents around Trubisky and Jordan Howard could put the Bears on the cusp of being at least a.500 team and perhaps (gulp) challenging for their first playoff appearance since 2010. He had 39 catches for 593 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games last season with the Rams. There's always a premium for the top players in free agency. Robinson is returning from a torn ACL he suffered at the start of the 2017 season. He emerged in 2016 as one of the organization's best undrafted discoveries in a long time when he had 66 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns in just his second season.

The Bears had a good defense past year, but the offense was the Achilles' heel of the team. Durability has been an issue for Callahan, who missed four games last season (knee), but he was still on the field for 48.4 percent of the defensive snaps. While Trubisky's rookie season left much to be desired, it was also not a fair assessment of his potential given the lack of offensive weapons for the passing game. The team is believed to be in the process of working to re-sign more of its own free agents.
