When researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in France, Imperial College London and the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom analyzed the data they made the link between sedentary behaviour and bowel cancer.

"It's interesting that only men who watched a lot of TV had an increased risk of bowel cancer, but not women", Murphy said. "Being sedentary is also associated with weight gain and greater body fat".

A wealth of research has pin pointed sedentary behavior as a major cause of health problems, and watching TV is one such behavior.

As it turned out in the course of the study, which was attended by 430 people, including not only men but also women, watching television can contribute to cancer in the first.

The team says they'll need further research to answer the questions the study raises.

Researchers of that study found that three in 10 rectal cancer diagnoses are in patients younger than the age of 55. "We are seeing a general decline in incidence rates but that decline is restricted to age groups over 50, but colorectal cancer is going up in people under 50".

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canada.

Moreover, this factor affects more men. That's an average of 73 Canadians being diagnosed every day, and 26 deaths due to the cancer.

On March 14 at 3:30 p.m., the Rhode Island Colorectal Cancer Advisory Committee is scheduled to join community partners and legislators at the State House to recognize March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, which highlights the importance of screening.
