They have Jeffries as a 4-star and the 26th best player for the Class of 2019.

John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats have picked up their first commitment for the 2019 class as four-star forward D.J. Jeffries has announced he will attend Kentucky. "They made a good connection with my family and that was a big thing with me, so that was where I wanted to go". He picks United Kingdom over Alabama and Mississippi State.

Calipari's continuous presence - a rarity for a player who's just a junior in high school - shows how much the United Kingdom coach thinks of Jeffries, who scored 20 points in that state title game Saturday night and was named the tournament's most valuable player.

The Kentucky coach and the Wildcats have become a program known for moving players on before graduation and Jeffries admitted he wants to tap into that stream. "But, obviously, when you have that type of versatility and ability to play inside and out, it's promising".

"My plan is to go one-and-done", Jeffries said. "They have come to visit me and have made me feel like a priority".

Jeffries was also offered a scholarship by Kansas, Texas A&M and Memphis, among others.

Jeffries has played for Penny Hardaway's successful "Team Penny" AAU program and with Hardaway linked by many as a possible replacement if Memphis basketball coach Tubby Smith is let go by the Tigers, as is recent speculation, Jeffries admitted that if Hardaway, now the head coach at Memphis East High, is named to lead Memphis, he would have to look at that.

"I tried to put on a good show for the fans, because they might see me in a couple years", he replied to another. "If Coach Hardaway gets the job, it's something I would consider, but for right now I'm all in for Kentucky".

"I chose Kentucky because throughout this process they have been the most active", Jeffries told PrepCircuit.com.
