Ex-NBA star Dennis Rodman pleads guilty and is sentenced to probation in Newport Beach DUI case

Rodman pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of drunken driving.

Rodman was arrested for DUI after initially being stopped at 11:11 p.m.in the 4500 block of West Coast Highway for a vehicle violation, said Lt. Rachel Johnson of the Newport Beach Police Department.

"The court made the right call. In issuing the sentence, the court recognized Dennis's intensive inpatient rehabilitation and his commitment to treatment", said Rodman's attorney, Paul S. Meyer. "Dennis has accepted responsibility for his sobriety and has made great progress".

Dennis Rodman has pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor DUI, avoiding jail time. The NBA vet was reportedly told that if he messes up again in the next two years, he will be sentenced to 90 days in prison.

He won five National Basketball Association championships - two with the Detroit Pistons and three with the Chicago Bulls - earned the Defensive Player of the Year Award twice and led the National Basketball Association in rebounding four times.

"I basically hang out with him all the time, we laugh, we sing karaoke, we do a lot of cool things together", Rodman said in a 2017 British television interview.

He played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association with the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks before retiring in 2000.

He is also friendly with US President Donald Trump - who once fired Rodman on the reality television show "Celebrity Apprentice".
